Critics of JCPOA unable to perceive realities: Zarif

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Vienna, May 17, IRNA -- Those who consider the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action as producing no effects are unable to correctly perceive realities and the conditions of the country, says Foreign Minister.

Speaking to the Islamic Republic News Agency correspondent on Monday, Mohammad Javad Zarif said that those who claim the JCPOA have had no benefits and it has kept waiting the businessmen and economic entrepreneurs for three years, do not understand the realities on the ground and the country's situation.

Figures show that despite falling oil prices, recession has subsided and the economy is growing, Zarif said, adding that Iran's oil export doubled in the past three months after implementation of the nuclear deal reached between Iran and G5+1.

Iran's top diplomat said that foreign investments in Iran amount to billions of dollars and Iran and foreign companies have agreed on an array of projects.

He expressed hope that Iran experience significant growth and lower inflation rate during the months ahead.

Yet, Zarif remained critical of the United States as failing to do enough to open the way for the banks to deal with Iran.

The United States has failed to give foreign banks assurances to deal with the Islamic Republic and Tehran will pursue the case, he said.

Iran will pursue effective implementation of the JCPOA by the US, he said.

Zarif also said that Iranian envoys abroad are holding forums to discuss ways for better execution of the JCPOA.

'I will discuss elimination of the obstacles hindering the implementation of the JCPOA during meeting with my counterparts including the US secretary of state on the sidelines of Vienna talks on Syria crisis,' he noted.

Zarif and Feredica Mogherini, the European Union's foreign policy chief discussed latest regional and international developments in a meeting on Monday evening soon after his arrival in Vienna.

Zarif arrived in the Austrian capital on Monday evening to attend Vienna talks on Syria.

The Tuesday meeting of the 17-member International Syria Support Group will be co-chaired by the United States and Russia, and include European Union and Arab League countries as well as Turkey, Iran and China.
