Iran to continue nuclear research, development, says Rouhani
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Sep 16, IRNA -- On the first day of the implementation of the nuclear deal, Iran will perform the injection of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) into newly generated IR8 centrifuges, says President Hassan Rouhani.
'We insisted to do the operation to stay on the path towards more research and development and to continue our drive,' said the President of the Islamic Republic in the first gathering of knowledge-based companies in the field of health on Wednesday.
'They wanted us to completely shut down the Fordow nuclear facility as it is an underground site in a mountainous region, criticizing us for constructing it under the mountains,' said Rouhani.
'Ask yourself, we answered them when you were threatening us that you had options ready on the table, we had to do our job under the mountains to nullify your threats,' said he.
'This way we built our enrichment sites under the mountains.'
Rouhani said that at first they believed running the Fordow facility was unacceptable but finally they accepted we keep running half of the underground facility and shut down the other half.
'And we told them that we would accept on the condition that the running half would become a research center for developing stable isotopes; the expertise we should acquire,' said Iran's President.
'And they finally resigned to our demands.'
