Supreme Leader acknowledges constitutional duty of IRGC armed forces

Tehran, Sept 16, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Wednesday acknowledged the Constitutional duty of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps as the armed forces and blessing of the Islamic Revolution.

The Supreme Leader made the remarks in a meeting with IRGC commanders.

The Supreme Leader said that ill-wishers attempted to find foothold in the political and cultural spectrum to set a blow to the Islamic revolution, but to no avail.

Identifying the enemy's plots and bolstering the revolutionary spirit of the Iranian people will disappoint the enemies, said Ayatollah Khamenei.

The Supreme Leader highlighted the status of the IRGC and defined its duties as the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran to support territorial integrity and national sovereignty of the government.

IRGC is a very disciplined organization as it shoulders a very grave responsibility in protecting the Islamic revolution, said Ayatoallah Khamenei.

IRGC is an organization which combines the energy of the youth with the experience of the veteran forces, such trend should proceed, said the Supreme Leader.

The Supreme Leader said that IRGC is responsible for identifying the threats and thwart them.

One of the main duties of the IRGC is constant surveillance of domestic, regional and international issues in order to thwart potential threats, said Ayatollah Khameni.

Iran never initiated a war and never will do so but since the Islamic Revolution is exposed to constant threats, it requires the vigilance of the IRGC, said the Supreme Leader.

The enemies attempted to influence the beliefs of people to harm the nation but the IRGC should be powerful in terms of logic to defend the principles of the Islamic revolution, said the Supreme Leader.

Identification of the enemy is tantamount to protecting the revolution, said the Supreme Leader adding that the US proved its animosity to Iran and that the global arrogance is symbol of coward people.

The enemies of the Islamic Revolution have already chanted slogans as 'restoring security, campaign against terrorism, establishment of democracy and creating peace in the region but they brought nothing except insecurity and a wild and rough terrorism which triggered a devastating war in the region, said Ayatollah Khamenei.

The US entered the region under the motto of 'Restoring Democracy' but it has turned to their main concern as dictators in the region continue their crimes and atrocities enjoying support of the US, said the Supreme Leader.

Principles of the Islamic Revolution are unchangeable but its methods and strategies could be flexible, said the Supreme Leader.

They wish Iran to ignore its principles in foreign policy but the Islamic ideology ushers in Iranian policy in all fields, said Ayatoallah Khamenei.

The enemy has admitted that Iran has become a powerful country which can leave vital impacts on regional developments but they advise Iran at the same time to avoid such a belief in order to join the international community, said the Supreme Leader.

The enemy's main goal is to persuade Iran to avoid its revolutionary thoughts to attain their sinister goals, said the Supreme Leader.

The Supreme Leader advised all people from all walks of life to exercise vigilance to thwart the enemies' conspiracies.

It is among responsibilities of the country's intellectuals to bolster the beliefs and spirit of the Islamic Revolution, said the Supreme Leader.

Prior to Supreme Leader's remarks the Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari briefed the activities of the armed forces.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is currently at strongest status in terms of defense and security, said the IRGC commander.
