Amano says Iran provided IAEA with explanations on outstanding issues
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Sept 14, IRNA -- IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano said Monday that Iran provided the Agency with explanations in writing and related documents, to clarify the outstanding issues in line with the roadmap signed between Iran and the agency on July 14.
'We reviewed the information and put forward questions to Iran last week,' Amano said, speaking during the 59th Regular Session of IAEA General Conference.
'The Board of Governors has authorized me to undertake the verification and monitoring Iranian nuclear-related commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action agreed by the E3/EU+3 countries and Iran.'
As stated in the JCPOA, Iran will implement the Additional Protocol. This will give the Agency greater access to information and to sites in Iran, Amano said, adding that implementation of the Additional Protocol is a prerequisite to enable the Agency to verify, in due course, and provide credible assurance about the undeclared nuclear material and activities in Iran.
Iran has also agreed under the JCPOA to implement additional transparency measures, which will help the Agency to have a better understanding of Iran's nuclear program, the IAEA chief said.
He said that the cost of the Agency's monitoring and verifying Iran's nuclear-related commitments under the JCPOA will need to be addressed, both through the Regular Budget and extrabudgetary contributions, in the coming years.
