Iran to unveil new air defense system

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iran is now installing a strategic radar which would be unveiled on September 1st, said Commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili.

"The radar is strategic type with 1.00 km aerial range. It is capable of intercepting tiny flying objects, ballistic and semi-ballistic missiles as well as giant airplanes," he said.

The commander also said that SOC system or advanced controlling commanding center has been operational by Iranian experts in Defense Ministry.

Esmaili further noted that air defense of the Islamic Republic of Iran is never considered a threat to its friends.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has called Iran the safest sky in the world, he added.
