TEHRAN (ISNA)- A senior Iranian official said that the country does not have any plan to carry nuclear warheads.

"Based on the UN Security Council resolution (approved recently) Iran was asked not to design missiles which are capable of carrying nuclear warheads. Our missiles have not been designed for that goal and we do not plan to do so. Our Shahab (a type of missile) missiles were not designed to carry warheads and they are conventional weapons," Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said.

He further said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is after protecting its system, territorial integrity and vital interests, adding that the country would not ignore its vital interests even the UN Security Council will approve a resolution which runs counter to the country's vital interests.

Velayati said Iran would support its friends in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen.

"We will never ignore our vital interests in the region and interests of our friends. Whether it is desirable for G5+1 and their allies or not. We will support our friends in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen."

The Iranian official said that Iran is supporting its friends in the region because of the strategic issues.
