TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iran slammed the recent US sanctions, reiterating that the measure runs counter to the US commitments based on the Geneva Deal.

'The measure is an apparent violation of the principle of the US good will and questions its goals,' said Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham on Wednesday in her weekly press conference.

She described the sanctions as 'politically-tainted' act with propaganda substance which has been adopted due to the US internal policies.

'The sanctions will fail to influence the Iranian government's will in complying with its sovereign commitments towards Iranian nation. We will continue our efforts to meet our needs.'

She also said that Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany would resume talks at the level of deputy foreign ministers bilaterally and multilaterally on January 15th.

The United States on Tuesday imposed sanctions on nine new targets, saying the entities and people allegedly have been working with Iranian government.

The newly named targets include five people and one entity who have been added to the list of sanctions for their alleged role in helping the Iranian government buy or acquire U.S. currency.
