Iran drill sends message of peace to neighbors, says Navy Cmdr

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the current military exercise underway in southern Iran and is codenamed Mohammad Rasoulollah (Mohammad, the Messenger of God) is sending the message of friendship and peace to neighbors.
'The drill is sending the message of friendship and peace to neighboring states and event trans-regional states. It shows that we are ready to provide security of the region jointly with Middle Eastern states and under Islamic unity,' he said.
'We have much in common with Persian Gulf states, especially in sea. We believe that we can defend interests of our countries if we boost our military power. This drill and improvement of military strength is not against any country, but it is sending the message of friendship to regional countries.'
He also said Iran expect other countries to help establishment of security in the region. 'We do not need presence of foreigners in the region,' adding Iran is ready to work with neighboring countries to provide security of the region.
Sayyari continued that the Strait of Hormuz and Oman Sea are world's key waterways which need full security and stability.
'Through the drill, we assure all that the region is secure and no one can disturb it.'
Iranian Armed Forces are holding the massive maneuvers to display the country's military prowess.
Different types of military hardware and weapons are deployed both in the water and on the ground during the drill, which is the largest of its kind in the region.
The Islamic Republic has frequently announced that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
