TEHRAN (ISNA)- The new integrated mine hunting system of the Iranian Navy was launched for the first time in Mohammad Rasoulollah (Mohammad, the Messenger of God) military exercise underway in southern Iran.
The flight units, surface vessels, ultra-speed boats, heavy submarines (Tareq Class) and indigenous and upgraded vessels conducted defense mine planting operations in Oman Sea, the drill site, on the 4th day of the military drill to prevent the enemy's infiltration into coastal waters.
During the drill hypothetical invading forces started mine planting operations to hit transportation lines and traffic location of insider vessels. The Iranian Navy started mine sweeping in response to provide security for trade vessels and oil tankers to keep the routes open, using RH helicopters.
The Iranian Navy's first mine hunting system was launched last year. It was carried by an RH helicopter and can activate and explode naval mines detonators using electromagnetic waves.
However a new sound system has been added to the newly-developed mine hunter which makes sound underwater to explode the naval mines.
This is the first time that the two systems are launched in an integrated way. However, they can be used separately as well.
High safety and speed is one of the characteristics of the mine hunting system built locally. It also improves the Navy's power in cleaning water from mines.
