TEHRAN (ISNA)- An Iranian army commander called the ongoing military exercises in the country code-named Mohammad Rasoulollah (Mohammad, the Messenger of God) the largest drill in the Middle East.

'The massive exercise of Mohammad Rasoulollah is the largest drill in the Middle East,' said General Heshmatollah Malekian.

The drill started on Thursday in southeastern Iran because it includes large operations, he said, adding Iranian Army has sent equipment and troops to the drill site from northwestern Iran.

Malekian noted that boosting the level of preparation and readiness of units is one of the goals of the drill. 'All factors of a real war, including real weapons are seen in the drill. It only includes hypothetical enemy instead of a real one.'

The Iranian army commander continued that home-made weapons are used in the exercise as well.

'The drill is sending the message of friendship. We want to show the world by the drill that the powerful Iran is capable of fighting the US, enemy of humanity, and it will defend interests of the Middle East.'
