Salehi: Iran possessing latest generation of IR8 centrifuges
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Dec 14, IRNA -- Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali-Akbar Salehi said on Sunday that Iran is in possession of the lastest generation of the IR8 centrifuges but gas has not been injected into them. As long as talks continue we do not intend to put 9,000 centrifuges into operation, said Salehi, who is also Vice-President.
He said, We are now in possession of the second generation of our centrifuges, about 1,000 of which have been installed, and about 164 others operate tentatively.
Salehi said, We also have the IR4, IR6 and IR8 centrifuges and the IR8 is the latest centrifuge of its kind, having the enrichment power of nearly 24 kg U SWU/year or 24 kg UF6 SWU/year. We have not injected gas into the centrifuge on a voluntary basis. As long as talks continue, we are not to inject gas into the ceterifuges.
We show this as our good intention to the other party. Of course, the mechanical tests are underway and different tests should be conducted, he said.
