TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iran detected a U2 Spy plane which violated its airspace, said Commander of Iran's Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili.

'We have destroyed the most costly targets of the enemies with least expenses. Last week, a U2 Spy plane was detected in one point of the country. It fled the country's borders swiftly after receiving a warning (from Iran),' he said.

He also referred to presence of an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) plane in Iranian airspace, and said Afghan aerial surveillance system had already detected the plane.

Esmaili said Iranian forces had waited for full control over the plan and could bring it down in one-hour operation in Abbas Port, southern Iran, through missile threat.

'108 military personnel of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization were on board when the plan was investigated.'
