TEHRAN (ISNA)- Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said the country needs 20 new nuclear power plants like Bushehr nuclear power plant.
Some countries are ready to work with Iran on building new power plants, he said, adding Bushehrh nuclear plant is injecting 7 billion kilowatt per hour of power to national grid annually.
'Today, the country needs 20 new power plants like Bushehr nuclear power plant,' he said.
In September, Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Reza Chit-Chian has already said Russia plans to build eight power plants in Iran.
The Iranian minister said four plants will be built in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, two in eastern city of Tabas, and two in the northwestern city of Sahand.
Chitchian also welcomed the investment of Russian companies in the Islamic Republic.
Russians have expressed readiness to design and construct power plants with an overall generation capacity of about 2,800 megawatts in Iran, he said.
The Iranian minister added that Tehran and Moscow have agreed that Russian firms also contribute to the renovation of power plants in Iran.
