TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iran unveiled the first drone equipped with air defense missile on Tuesday in the second day of Sacred Defense Week, marking the 8-year Iraqi imposed war on Iran.

'The drone has passed field tests and hit the intended targets successfully and can join the combat units of the armed forces,' said Iranian Deputy Minister of Defense General Amir Hatami.

He said the drone is of increased range and area of operation, adding it is capable of intercepting and annihilating drones seeking aggression.

The drone is also capable of hitting other drones, jets and helicopters.

Iran unveiled its first domestically manufactured long-range combat drone, the Karrar (Striker), on August 23, 2010. Since then the country has manufactured a variety of other high-tech surveillance and combat unmanned aerial vehicles.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other countries that its military might poses no threat to other countries since its defense doctrine is based entirely on deterrence.
