Larijani visits Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Bushehr, Sept 3, IRNA -- Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani paid a visit to Iran's nuclear power plant in southern port city of Bushehr.

He arrived in the Persian Gulf province of Bushehr Wednesday morning to attend a ceremony held to commemorate martyrdom of Reis Ali Delvari on September 3.

Upon arrival, he praised Bushehr peoples resistance against colonialist powers efforts to occupy southern Iran.

September 3 has been designated as the Day of Combat Against British Colonialism in Iran.

On September 23, 2013, Iran took temporary control of Bushehr nuclear power plant for a two-year trial period, after which the country will be in overall charge of the power plant.

Russia has agreed to provide the power plant's fuel for 10 years, with the supply deal committing Tehran to returning the spent fuel.

The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant became officially operational and was connected to Iran's national grid in September 2011.

Iran and Russia have assured the international community that the plant is fully compliant with high-level safety standards and the IAEA safeguards.
