Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano says he expects progress will be made over Iran's nuclear energy program within the next week.
Speaking at Vienna airport on Monday a day after meeting with senior Iranian officials in Tehran, Amano said Iran had started implementing five nuclear transparency measures ahead of the August 25 deadline for Tehran to provide the agency with a new set of information on its nuclear energy program.
'The implementation of these five measures [has] started,' Amano told reporters upon his arrival in Vienna, adding, 'We have started and that is important and I expect that progress will be made over the next week.'
Iran and the IAEA signed a joint statement on November 11, 2013, to outline a roadmap for mutual cooperation on certain outstanding nuclear issues.
On May 20, the two sides held a technical meeting within the Framework for Cooperation agreed in November 2013. During the meeting, they agreed to five practical measures which should be implemented by August 25 for more cooperation.
During a meeting with the media in Iran on Sunday, Amano hailed Iran's resolve to settle issues pertaining to its nuclear energy program through cooperation with the nuclear agency.
'I was very glad to hear from the highest levels a firm commitment to the implementation of the Framework for Cooperation, and to resolve all present and past issues through dialogue and cooperation with the IAEA," he said.
