Iran serious in negotiations with P5+1, IAEA: President

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, August 17, IRNA -- President Hassan Rouhani said Sunday that Iran is serious in its nuclear negotiations with the six world nations -- known as the P5+1 – and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In a meeting in Tehran with visiting Director-General of the IAEA, Yukiya Amano, Rouhani said Iran wants nothing more than its legitimate rights, including the right to enrichment for peaceful purposes.

Over the past 12 years, the International Atomic Energy Agency has regularly visited Irans peaceful nuclear facilities and has repeatedly announced that there were no signs of deviation in the countrys nuclear program, Rouhani said.

The President called on the UN atomic agency to impartially deal with Irans nuclear case so that it will continue to be identified as an international body playing a positive role in recognizing world countries rights to use nuclear technology for civilian purposes.

Rouhani noted that for its progress, Iran needs modern technologies, including access to nuclear technology for generating electricity and its applications in the fields of medicine, agriculture and industry.

The IAEA chief, for his part, appreciated Irans readiness to show more transparency in its nuclear program.

Amano expressed satisfaction with the progress in negotiations with Iran, particularly over the past year, and hoped that with the cooperation deal signed by Tehran and the IAEA, the remaining ambiguities will be removed soon.
