Iran to develop new Hunter air defence missile
18 April 2014, 17:57 -- Iran is developing a new updated version of the Sayyad-3 (Hunter-3) mid-range missile, the commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said on Friday.
According to him, the new missile is due to be mounted on the S-200 missile defence systems, which Iran has produced since 2010.
The system is capable of repelling attacks by bombers and other types of combat aircraft, as well as of destroying helicopters, drones and other air threats, the General said. The Iranian media quote him as saying that Sayyad-3 missiles will prove quite a surprise to the enemy on the battlefield. Iran marks National Army Day on Friday. When addressing the military parade in Tehran, President Hassan Rouhani said that the might of Iran's armed forces effectively props up the 'strong positions of our negotiators' during the talks with the six international mediators on a settlement of Iran's nuclear problem.
But President Rouhani also pointed out that Tehran had told the international negotiators that Iran was not up to any aggression or war.
'We support logics and dialogue', the Iranian leader said.
