TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iran's Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has denounced as "disgraceful" a recent report by the United Nations on the Islamic Republic's human rights record.

Iran's Parliament condemned the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's report about the country and the Israeli regime's moves against the oppressed Palestinian people, Larijani said in an open session of Majlis on Saturday.

"Today…that all countries at the global level are commending Iran for fighting narcotics, true values are mocked by the United Nations which should be a force for tranquility and peace in the world, and Iran is being insulted for fighting against smugglers and executing them," he added.

It seems that laws and approaches pertaining to the war on drugs should be revised given such "spiteful" UN reports, the top Iranian parliamentarian said.

The Parliament Speaker emphasized that such moves take place under "an organized cultural and political campaign" otherwise known as "modern hypocracy."

Along with other Muslim nations, the Iranian people will continue their resistance to give a response to such evil acts, Larijani pointed out.

The report by the UN chief, Ban Ki-moon, accused the new Iranian administration of having failed to improve the situation of human rights in the country. He was mainly referring to the execution of drug traffickers, with whom Iran is 'at war.'

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham on Thursday censured the UN report as "unacceptable and politically-motivated."

"Given its non-legal and unsubstantiated accusations and claims, this report lacks legal credibility," Press TV quoted him as Afkham as saying.
