TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi rejected reports that Iran and the G5+1 are likely to extend talks for another 6 months.
'During the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) meeting in the IAEA headquarters in Vienna held behind closed doors I said that talks are only for 6 months, but based on the Geneva deal it is possible to continue talks for additional 6 months in case no agreement is made,' he said.
Alhurra news website has already quoted Najafi as saying that Iran and the G5+1 are likely to to extend negotiations for extra 6 months.
Negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group have aimed at reaching a final agreement to fully resolve the West's decade-old dispute over Tehran's nuclear energy program.
Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany inked an interim deal on Tehran's nuclear energy program in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 24 last year. The Geneva accord, dubbed the Joint Plan of Action, took effect on January 20.
Tehran and the six countries wrapped up their latest round of nuclear negotiations in Vienna on February 20.
Following the Vienna talks, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi said Tehran and its negotiating partners had finalized a framework for comprehensive talks to reach a final agreement on Iran's nuclear energy program.
