Russia keen to build new units in Bushehr N. plant

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian ambassador to Russia said Moscow is willing to build new units in Bushehr nuclear power plant.

'Building the second phase of Bushehr power plant is on the agenda of cooperation between the two countries, and the two sides plan to exchange delegations for investigating and considering the issue,' Mehdi Sanaei said in a meeting with Russian Rusatom Deputy Director Nikolai Spassky.

He also said Iran-Russia constructive cooperation for building new units in Bushehr nuclear power plant is an example of attentions of the two sides to bilateral cooperation in different areas.

Nikolai Spassky, for his part, said the two sides hold massive potentials for nuclear energy cooperation. 'The area could be a good ground for long-term cooperation between the two sides.'

'Russia supports Iran's peaceful nuclear activities and the issue of launching Bushehr power plant is of great importance not only for the two states, but also for the two nations. Russia has accomplished Bushehr power plant despite all pressures and launching its first unit was an example of successful cooperation between the two sides.'

Elsewhere, regarding construction of the second phase of the facilities, he said, 'We hope that the intended contract will be signed by mutual agreement.'
