Ashtons spokesman: Iran, G5+1 making progress on nuclear deal

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Jan 11, IRNA -- Michael Mann, the spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, said very good progress was made on all the pertinent issues, and that the results will be consulted with more senior officials for validation.

Iranian and the European Union representatives reiterated that progress has been made in talks over main issues related to the implementation of Novembers nuclear deal, but the United States says that discussions are not yet finalized.

Representatives from Iran and the six world powers wrapped up two days of intensive talks in Geneva on Friday on the outstanding issues related to the implementation of the deal, which the two sides reached in the Swiss city in November 2013.

Senior Iranian nuclear negotiator and deputy foreign minister, Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, represented the Islamic Republic, while European Union deputy foreign policy chief, Helga Schmidt, negotiated on behalf of the six world powers -- the US, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany.

We had very intensified negotiations yesterday and today, but it was very good, very constructive, and we made good progress. We were able to find solutions for almost every question. There is no difference now between the two sides," Araqchi said after his talks with Schmidt.

"We have to take these solutions to the capitals for final confirmation," Araqchi added.
