Larijani: Iran pursuing n. negotiations parallel with n. progress
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Jan 10, IRNA -- Iran proceeds with its progress in nuclear technology parallel with pursuing its nuclear negotiations with the West, said the Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani here on Thursday.
"The question we need to ask ourselves today, is whether the Islamic Republic of Iran has achieved a reputable status and achieved noticeable objectives in the field of nuclear activities, or not?" said the speaker in an address in a commemoration service for a martyred nuclear scientist, Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan.
He considered the present day advancements in Iran's nuclear activities to be the result of the Iranian nation's resistance and steadfastness, saying, "Some western countries in the past created obstacles in the way of completing the Isfahan UCF power station and did not wish us to have activities in the field of manufacturing centrifuges."
"The Iranian nation's scientific activities led to our country's progress in various fields, such as achieving independence in the field of nuclear technology. In fact the moves made by the West led to our country's achieving of its current status in its peaceful nuclear program, and we are proud of it," he added.
He pointed out that the westerners emphasize that Iran has disturbed the region's balance, adding, "They mean Iran has created problems for them by focusing on such issues as the Islamic Awakening and blocking the path for the implementation of their plans in the region."
Larijani said that the nuclear issue is pursued through diplomatic negotiations today, adding, "Their behavior leads us to conclude that they want to change the conditions; in this respect sometimes they put forth criticism and raise suspicions in their political literature."
The parliament speaker referred to the assassination of the country's nuclear scientists by the enemies of the Iranian nation, saying that the moves made by those scientists have led to the present day grandeur of the Iran.
He said that the hue and cry raised by the West on the Iranian nuclear program today should not create obstacles in the way for observing the precious achievements of those prestigious martyrs.
An explosion in January 2012 killed Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, a top Iranian scientist working at the Natanz uranium enrichment plant.
He was the third Iranian nuclear scientist to be killed in Iran in a mysterious explosion in two years. A fourth nuclear scientist survived an assassination attempt.
In each case, someone placed a bomb under the scientists' cars.
Iranian officials, on state-run media, blamed Israel and the United States for the assassinations.
I want to categorically deny any United States involvement in any kind of act of violence inside Iran, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said at the time, but the racist Zionist regime of Israel always remained silent about the accusation.
