IRGC commander: Irans power not mere military

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Dec 11, IRNA -- Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Ja'fari said Iran's power relies not just on its military might.

Addressing a ceremony, he said 35 years after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Iran has now accomplished many great and unique achievements making it a powerful and mighty country.

Pointing to Iran's high security and supreme defense power, the commander said
Iran's power does not rely merely on its military capabilities but the public support is the most important component of its strength.

Stressing that hegemonic powers are scared of Iran's power, he further pointed to Iran's resistance during eight years of imposed war when the nation confronted enemies without having any outstanding technologies and equipment, finally succeeding to defeat a regime which was backed both by eastern and western powers.

Commenting on the military might of the country, he said the US bombs might be capable of damaging Iran's infrastructures but the point is that the IRGC enjoys very remarkable missiles and strategic capabilities.

He said the US would be able to destroy up to 20 percent of the IRGC missile capabilities given the fact that the corps has very complicated systems which notably reduces its vulnerability, especially in lower levels.

Asked whether the recent Geneva agreement could make Iran-US political relations possible, he said the Islamic Revolution inherently stands in sharp contrast with the hegemonic powers. This contrast will continue to exist as long as the Islamic Revolution continues to live, he added.

The IRGC commander said the only way to establish ties with Washington is the occurrence of changes in the very identity and essence of the Untied States.

He said anytime the US managed to change its behavior, then we could say that we have no war with the US.
