Iran sees an end to sanctions as final step of nuclear deal

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Dec 10, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Tuesday that Tehran considers lifting of the arbitrary sanctions as final step of the nuclear deal with the western governments.

Afkham told reporters at her weekly briefing that the sanctions are tyrannical and unacceptable.

She said that the Islamic Republic of Iran sees lifting of unilateral and multilateral as well as the UN Security Council sanctions as the ultimate agreement with the western governments.

Asked to comment about the fate of Geneva accord made on November 24 if the US Congress adopts fresh sanctions, Afkham said that based on the agreement made in Geneva, the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the structure of sanctions is getting ruined.

She said the Iranian negotiating team is fully optimistic that final step would be taken for a total lifting of sanctions by the western governemnts in parallel with the steps being taken by Iran for confidence-building and implementing an action plan with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Responding to another question about the US senior officials perception about Iran, Afkham said, "We have a close watch on their statements, checking them with the domestic dimensions of the statements and the domestic policy of the US."

"What is obvious for us is that now it seems there is a contradiction of interests and there are certain bodies in efforts to divert the path."

She added that of course, the US officials make irrelevant statements but perhaps the main word, rarely reflected by the media, is acceptance of enrichment right.

She said that the Islamic Republic of Iran fully defends rights of the nation, using all diplomatic means, including diplomatic capacity and judicial mechanisms, remaining determined to support Iranian nation's absolute and natural rights.

Elsewhere in the interview, Afkham focused on details of Iran-Afghanistan friendship accord, saying that the Iranian and Afghan presidents had in a meeting agreed to prepare text of a comprehensive friendship pact.

Based on the agreement by the two presidents, the Iranian and Afghan foreign ministers will do the expert work to prepare text of the accord on political, security, economic, social and cultural dimensions.

She hoped that the pact would be helpful for future relations of the two nations.

Afkham dismissed alleged secret talks with Washington, and said there had been no secret negotiations between Iran and the US.

What happened between Iran and the US concerns nuclear issue and in the context of talks with Group 5+1. Our stance on talks with the US is fully clear and definite."

To a question that Israeli Netanyahu asked to meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Afkham said that Iran does not recognize the occupying regime. It is a forgery regime and Iran will never recognize such a forgery regime, she said.

The regime has been founded on aggression and usurpation, its presence is through forgery and usurpation of the lands of the Palestinian people. "

The Zionist regime tries to influence Muslim nations' public opinion, said Afkham, adding, "Regional nations are fully aware, not getting influenced by such a literature."

Meanwhile, the spokeswoman said President Hassan Rouhani will meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who will arrive in Tehran tonight.

She added that during his two-day stay, Lavrov will hold detailed talks with President Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif.
