Iran to launch 1st semi-heavy submarine by yearend

Zanjan, Nov 29, IRNA -- Head of the Iranian Navy's Self-Sufficiency Jihad Research Organization said that Iran will soon launch its first semi-heavy weight submarine before the end of the current Iranian year (end March 20, 2014).
Speaking in the pre-sermon speech of Tehran Friday prayers on Friday, Rear Admiral Ali Qolamzadeh said, "The first semi-heavy submarine made in Iran, w2ill be launched by the capable experts of the Defense Ministry and the Navy before the end of the current year."
"We have manufactured many light submarines by the measures already taken," Rear Admiral Qolamzadeh said.
He reiterated that the Islamic Iran has managed to have even better performance than the famous submarine manufacturers, specially in the field of semi-heavy submarine, by making use of the Iranian engineers and experts.
"The Navy has built many destroyers, including Jamaran, and it has now better destroyers under short-term production," Rear Admiral Qolamzadeh said.
