A senior Iranian commander has downplayed recent US military threats against the Islamic Republic as 'lies', saying Washington is in fear of launching an attack against Iran.
"That the Americans say the military option is on the table is a lie," Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said on Sunday.
Jafari added, "The Americans do not know we are aware that they are afraid of attacking Iran more than any other country and definitely, no such idea exists in the minds of US officials. But regardless, they use it as a political tool."
On November 7, US President Barack Obama told the NBC News that Washington might still consider a military option against Iran if Tehran fails to give "assurances" over its nuclear energy program.
The United States has repeatedly threatened to take military action against the Islamic Republic, stating that "all options are on the table" over the country's nuclear energy program, which Washington falsely claims to include military dimensions.
The Islamic Republic categorically rejects the allegation, stressing that as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
