The Iranian and Russian Air Force commanders have met in the Iranian capital, Tehran, to exchange views on ways of further expanding Tehran-Moscow cooperation in military and defense sectors.

Brigadier General Hassan Shahsafi, the commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) and Russian Air Force Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Viktor Nikolaevich Bondarev discussed common areas of interest between the two countries in Tehran on Sunday.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Bondarev is currently in Iran for a four-day visit at the invitation of Brigadier General Shahsafi. He has also held a separate meeting with Commander of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili earlier on Sunday.

According to Deputy Commander of IRIAF Brigadier General Alireza Barkhor, Bondarev's talks with Shahsafi mainly focused on the exchange of information about pilot training.

The two sides "exchanged views on Iran's willingness to send students abroad and the Islamic Republic of Iran's capabilities in training pilots," Barkhor added.

During his stay, the Russian commander will also visit Shahid Sattari Aviation University and the Mehrabad Air Base in Tehran as well as the Shahid Babaie Air Base in Iran's central city of Isfahan, said Brigadier General Barkhor.

Meeting with Commander of the Aerospace Division of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Amirali Hajizadeh is also on the agenda of Bondarev's trip to Iran.

In January, Iran and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding to increase security cooperation between the two countries when Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Alexandrovich Kolokoltsev visited the Islamic Republic.
