Iran, G5+1 to resume talks on Tuesday

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany are scheduled to hold talks on Tuesday at Nations Palace in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Tuesday talks are a follow-up to the previous round of talks between foreign ministers of Iran and G5+1 as well as the EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York.

The previous round of talks in Geneva were held on December 6-7. Iran and G5+1 have already held talks in Istanbul, Moscow, Baghdad and Almaty.

A member of Iranian nuclear negotiating team Abbas Araqchi said Iran insists on holding the talks at the level of foreign ministers to obtain desirable results.

The Tuesday talks is to be co-chaired by Ashton and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The Iranian negotiating team led by Zarif includes Araqchi, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Europe and US Affairs Majid Ravanchi, a representative from Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Amiri, Baidinejad and Morteza Kamalvandi.

The US team includes James Timbie, senior adviser to the undersecretary of state for arms control and international security; Puneet Talwar, senior director for Iran, Iraq and the Gulf States on the White House National Security Staff; and Richard Nephew, principal deputy coordinator for sanctions policy at the State Department.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Riabkov and Especial Envoy of German Foreign Ministry for Eastern Europe Hans-Dieter Lukas are other members of the G5+1.
