Over 10 sites indentified for building new nuclear power plants: official

Tehran, Sept 23, IRNA -- Head of Irans Nuclear Safety System Nasser Rastkhah said that more than 10 sites have been pinpointed for construction of new atomic power plants across the country.
Responding to a question which areas can serve as the sites for building new nuclear power plants, he added that various points in the country have undergone geological studies for the purpose.
Several potential sites have been identified for building new nuclear power plants, with the primary studies conducted, he said.
Describing selection of sites as one of the most significant subjects for building atomic power plants, Rastkhah added that an irreparable disatster which occurred in Fukushima following an earthquake was due to inattention to the site and relevant calculations.
Commenting on the trend of activities at Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, he noted that the project has temporarily been handed over to the Iranian side Monday.
The plant will be under Russian warranty for a certain period of time, he said.
