Basij commander lauds high voters turnout in election

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, June 15, IRNA -- Commander of the Basij (volunteer forces) Brigadier-General Mohammad Reza Naqdi said here Saturday the high turnout of Iranians in the June 14 presidential elections have foiled enemies' plots against the country.

Addressing a local gathering in Tehran, Naqdi said the high voters turnout has indicated that the Iranian nation fully trusted in the Islamic Republic system.

Condemning the various sanctions imposed on Iran by bullying powers, he said such moves by enemies are aimed at exhausting Iranian people and separating them from the Islamic system.

Millions of Iranians on Friday (June 14) attended polling stations to choose the country's 11th president as well as their representatives in the city and rural councils.

Some 50.5 million Iranians, including over 1.6 million first-time voters, were eligible to vote in the presidential elections.
