Israeli Prime Minister Accuses Tehran Of Cyberattacks

June 10, 2013

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says there has been a "significant rise" in cyberattacks against Israel by Iran.

Netanyahu told a security conference in Tel Aviv on June 9 that Iran is targeting Israel's "essential systems."

He also accused Iran's allies in Lebanon and the Palestinian territories -- Hizballah and Hamas -- of being involved.

He said Israel's water system, electricity grid, trains, and banks have all been targeted recently.

Netanyahu said he expects such attacks "will continue to intensify as we advance into the digital age."

Netanyahu gave no further details, and his office refused to elaborate.

Israel and the United States are widely believed to be behind a series of cyberattacks in recent years against Iran's nuclear program.
