Iran's presidential candidate Saeed Jalili says the Islamic Republic has made substantial progress in the field of nuclear technology thanks to its resistance against Western pressure.
Addressing a gathering in the southern Iranian city of Ahvaz on Monday, Jalili described the US-led sanctions against Iran as an opportunity for the Islamic Republic to tap into the Iranian nation's talents.
Iran is among the top ten countries in the field of peaceful nuclear technology, he said.
Jalili is campaigning for Iran's 11th presidential election due to be held on June 14.
"Our country is now in a very good condition [in terms of nuclear technology]. The right to nuclear technology is a symbol for the Iranian nation so that the enemy understands that we will not retreat one iota from our basic rights," said Jalili, who is currently the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).
The United States, the Israeli regime and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.
The illegal US-engineered sanctions were imposed based on the unfounded accusation that Iran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.
Using the false allegation as pretext, Washington and the European Union have imposed several rounds of illegal unilateral sanctions on Iran.
Iran rejects the allegation and argues that it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
