Supreme Leader calls for harmony between Government and Majlis

Tehran, May 29, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Wednesday called for harmony between the government and Majlis acknowleding late Imam Khomeini's edict that Majlis is of superiority in decisionmaking.

The Supreme Leader made the remarks in a meeting with members of parliament.

The Islamic Majlis is on top of the affairs and the executive body (government) is at the middle of heavy task, said the Supreme leader, advising the two bodies to develop fair interacttion.

Referring to the upcoming presidential election, Ayatollah Khamenei said all should endeavor to hold lively election with participation of people from all walks of life as the authority and strength of the Islamic revolution emanate from support of the people and their massive turnout.

A lively election prepares the ground for an immune, powerful and secure situation for country thwarting the enemies' threats, said the Supreme Leader.

The Supreme Leader said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is proud of the backing of the people and that the popular support brought dignity and blessings for the nation.

On the requirement to abid by law in the process of the presidential election, the Supreme Leader said that both the candidates and those in charge of organizing the election must obseve law and the candidates must express a fair outlook about performance of the outgoing government.

'We might be discontent with the rule of law in certain issues, but, our obedience to law is the criterion for an honest way of administration.'

People should exercise vigilance, awareness and insight in choosing their candidates, underlined the Supreme Leader.

Level of knowledge and insight of Iranian people in political issues is above international average and the programs being broadcast by the radio and television helped the people to get acquaintance with the candidates, said the Supreme Leader.

Candidates should note that they shoulder a heavy responsibility and should mind their words while addressing the nation, said the Supreme Leader.

The candidates should tell realities about the country's situation as well as their own deeds and background, said Ayatollah Khamenei.

The Supreme leader said that candidates should not target each other or distort realities to win the votes of the people.

'Majlis representatives should understand that they have the chance to serve nation which is a very significant task before Almighty God.'

The Supreme Leader assigned both the legislature and executive bodies to cooperate interact to tackle the affairs as each body has its own limits and boundaries.

The Supreme Leader said that differences of opinion are quite natural and this should not lead to argument or controversy.

The Supreme Leader appreciated the efforts of Majlis and the presiding board to serve the nation.

Prior to the Supreme Leader's remarks Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani presented a report on performance of the parliament and service of the lagislative body to the nation.
