IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, May 25, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi warned Washington against violation of its international commitments and asked US to avoid interfering in internal affairs of other countries, including Iran.
According to the report of Foreign Ministry Media Department, on recent interfering statements of the US officials about Iran's presidential elections, Salehi said some of their statements are amazing, adding that US support for democracy is only a gesture and a deceitful claim.
Iran's senior diplomat said, 'We believe that learning from history and commitment to principles of international law, such as non-interference in other countries' affairs, is beneficial for the USA.'
He went on to say that beyond general international commitments, the US government has been clearly committed in Algeria communiqué not to interfere in Iran's internal affairs.
Salehi said that information and knowledge of the US officials on Iran's election system is weak and superficial, adding that Americans should accept that every country has its own specific election system upon its values and laws.
Guardian Council in Iran has its legal duties and position, which has been defined by the Constitutional Law, he stressed.
He recommended the US officials enhance their knowledge by authentic resources and knowlegable advisors and be cautious on consequences of their unjustified statements.
