More hopefuls have signed up to participate in Iran's June 14 presidential election on the fifth and final day of official registration.
"I hope that the Iranian nation will show great valor on June 14 with their mass participation and I have come to use diplomatic capacity for the security and welfare of Iranians," former Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki told a press conference after registering for the presidential vote on Saturday.
He pointed to Iran's huge potentials and said the Iranian nation should not live in financial straits because of the unwise policies of certain officials. He said that if elected he would work to raise the status and position of Iran.
Mohammad Shariatmadari, the former Minister of Commerce, who also signed up on the last day said that providing unemployment insurance was on his agenda.
He said that if elected he would try to boost investment attraction and promote business to tackle the problem of unemployment.
He also said that he would reduce the government intervention and strengthen the private sectors.
Some 686 hopefuls have signed up for the presidential vote so far.
Among the prominent figures who have signed up for the post are Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf and former Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Velayati.
The registration of hopefuls officially began on May 7 and hopefuls had until May 11 to sign up for the presidential vote.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election.
The Guardian Council vets hopefuls and will publish the final list of candidates later this month.
