Iran's nuclear program on right track: AEOI chief

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Urumieh, Western Azarbaijan Prov, May 5, IRNA -- Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Fereidoun Abbasi said on Sunday that Iran's nuclear program is on the right track.

Abbasi accused the western governments of seeking to monopolize nuclear technology.

He said that fossil fuel will finish in the near future and that considering the current reserves of uranium in the world, nuclear fuel will be sufficient for the next 200 years.

He said that only 5 to 10 percent of nuclear energy is related to producing weapons and 90 to 95 percent of this energy can serve human development.

The hegemonic powers have attempted to prevent Iran from achieving advanced science which are the base of future progress, he said.

'Fortunately Iranian officials, the Supreme Leader in particular, have well stood up to the western hegemony.'

He said that in the future all the sciences will depend on possessing satellites, adding without nuclear technology 'we cannot send satellites into space and the enemies will not help us in this regard.'

Leaving behind the current economic sanctions and international pressure is the only way to achieve progress in science and technology, he said.
