No one ls executed for political reasons in Iran

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, April 24, IRNA -- Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani said on Wednesday that there is no political execution in Iran and most of the executions are carried for major drug traffickers and those taking arms against the governing system.

He strongly refuted baseless allegations on execution or heavy punishments against political activists in Iran.

Referring to the new reports issued by US State Department on the status of human rights in Iran, he said these allegations have been fabricated by the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran which shows their weakness.

He criticized the US State Department for issuing fake reports on human rights record of other nations, whereas, the United States has the blackest record of human rights violations.

The human rights record the US Administration set in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Abu Ghraib (Iraq) are clear examples to what extent the United States considers human rights and the systematic violation of human rights the US agents committed against suspects in the two detention centers.

Majorities of executions in Iran are for drug traffickers, he said adding that Iran has sense of responsibility about trafficking drug to the European countries as well as US.

The US under the guise of campaign against terrorism invaded Afghanistan and massacred thousands of innocent people, he said.

Elaborating on execution of those taking arms against the governing system, Larijani said that the US justice system also executes the people involved in armed sabotage sgainst the United States.

He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a democratically elected government and that Iran holds presidential elections and parliamentary elections, but, there are some countries enjoying full support of the US with no record of election.

Once again the Iranian nation will come to the scene and will create another epic during presidential election campaign, he said.

'All candidates should respect the law.'

The Guardian Council will make decision on eligibilities of the candidates, Larijani said.
