Iran's former Health Minister Kamran Baqeri Lankarani has officially announced his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election.
The principlist Perseverance Front has named Lankarani as its candidate for the 11th presidential election in June.
Another Principlist party, the Front of the Epic Makers of the Islamic Revolution (FEMIR), had previously picked lawmaker Alireza Zakani as its presidential contender.
FEMIR spokesman Mojtaba Shakeri said the front is comprised of war veterans who fought during the Iraqi imposed war against Iran (1980-1988).
The Islamic Republic's 11th presidential election will be held on June 14. Presidential hopefuls can register from May 7 to 11.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and candidates must be vetted for qualifications by the Guardian Council.
