Mehmanparast: Iran-5+1 upcoming talks good chance for trustbuilding by US
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Feb 19, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said the upcoming talks between Iran and the 5+1 is a proper chance for the US for trustbuilding.
He made the remark during his weekly press briefing on Tuesday.
Asked to comment on the view repeatedly expressed by Ayatollah Khamenei that direct talks with the US will not benefit Iran because of lack of political rationality and goodwill on the part of the American officials, he said as for Washington's readiness for talks with Iran, the overall framework are clearly set and explained by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
He noted that the upcoming talks between Iran and the 5+1 to be held in Kazakhstan could offer an opportunity for the US or other western countries to prove their goodwill and start trustbuilding.
He stressed that there is no sign indicating any changes in the attitudes and performance of the US officials.
The spokesman called on the US authorities to take practical steps to prove their respect to rights of the Iranian nation.
It is enough for them to just acknowledge the right of independent countries for pursuance of the latest technology and science in the world for peaceful development of their own countries.
He reiterated that the US interventions in Iran's domestic affairs, its continuing hostility against the Iranian nation, its tension-creating policies in the region and its support for grouplets active against Iran are just a few of the cases proving Washington's lack of goodwill.
