UN Nuclear Watchdog In Tehran For Talks

February 13, 2013

Officials of the United Nations nuclear watchdog agency, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), are holding talks with Iranian officials in Tehran.

Ahead of the meeting, the Iranian Foreign Ministry suggested that inspectors could be allowed to visit the Parchin military site if Iran and the IAEA are able to agree on a “comprehensive agreement” in which Iran’s nuclear rights are recognized.

The IAEA has said it believes activities relevant to possible nuclear-weapons development occurred at Parchin.

Iran denies any efforts to make an atomic bomb.

Herman Nackaerts, the IAEA’s chief inspector, pledged the agency will “work hard” to resolve its “differences” with Iran about oversight of Tehran’s nuclear program.

The IAEA’s visit comes ahead of the scheduled February 26 nuclear talks in Kazakhstan between Iran and six world powers.
