Soltanieh urges IAEA to accept reality of nuclear Iran

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Berlin, Jan 23, IRNA -- The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has to accept the reality of a nuclear Iran, Iran's Ambassador to the IAEA Ali Asghar Soltanieh said in an exclusive interview with IRNA in Berlin.

The success of the nuclear talks depends on whether the IAEA can accept the reality of a nuclear Iran, the Iranian diplomat stressed.

'We have been able to remove some of our differences in previous meetings but there are still some contentious points on which we insist,' Soltanieh said.

For instance, Iran has yet to receive any documents related to baseless accusations against its nuclear program. Anyone making a claim has to turn in his or her documents so we can deal with it and once it has been clarified, we can move to the next issue, he added.

Soltanieh made clear that it was important that in the end of this process, the Iranian nuclear dossier was closed. We have always insisted on this point as a matter of principle, he said.

Asked about ongoing western efforts to raise new allegations against Iran, Soltanieh said it was geared at keeping the Iranian nuclear file open despite regular inspections of all Iranian nuclear facilities.

Pointing to next month's talks between Iran and the IAEA, Soltanieh said progress had been made in the negotiation process.
