Iran will defeat enemies in economic war: Speaker
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Aran-va-Bidgol, Jan 11, IRNA -- The Islamic Republic of Iran will defeat enemies in economic war, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said on Friday.
He made the remarks in his speech prior to sermons of Friday prayers in Aran-va- Bidgol.
"Iranian nation by opting for resistance economy will enhance national investment in the economic fields and go ahead with plans to strengthen national producing sector to thwart the sanctions adopted by the western governments."
Larijani added that since enemies' military threats and their conspiracy to divide the nation were neutralized, they are using sanctions as a means to pressure Iranian nation.
"Iranian nuclear program is just an excuse for enemies to exert pressure on Iran and the fact is that they can not tolerate Iranian progress in science and technology and its inspiring role for other regional nations, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and Palestine."
The speaker underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported the oppressed in the world and would continue with the trend just like what it did to support the defenseless Palestinian people living in Gaza during the 8-day (2012) and 22-day Iraqi aggression on Gaza Strip in 2007.
Washington and its Western allies have orchestrated their anti-Iran campaign over Iranian nuclear program. They accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
Iran declared that Iranian nuclear program pursued a civilian path to generate electricity for the growing population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.
Despite the rights enshrined by the NPT for every member state to produce fuel for power plants by uranium enrichment, Iran is currently under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions over producing fuel supplies.
Tehran has dismissed Washington's demand to halt uranium enrichment as politically-motivated and illogical which runs counter to NPT stipulations and IAEA Charter.
'Sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue with their NPT rights.'
