He said that the discrimination observed on behalf of the UN in many world affairs is all by itself one of the major problems of the international community, adding, “The entire members of this organization must be able to participate in decision makings of the UN side by side of one another, each with one vote and in full cooperation.”

He reiterated, “These factors have let to the Security Council’s incompetence in heeding its sensitive responsibilities.”

Ahmadinejad pointed out that the range of taking advantage of these monopolized rights has increased by some UNSC permanent members, adding, “And they are still after further increasing such rights by imposing various types of pressure, practically disabling the Security Council from performing its duties.”

He emphasized, “Presently the UNSC is at the end of dead-end alley, quite incapable of providing security at the international scene.”

A reporter said that the United States is still imposing economic sanctions against Cuba, although the UN General Assembly has condemned such sanctions.

President Ahmadinejad replied, “The US governments one after the other one consecutively consider themselves superiors compared to the governments of the other world nations, taking advantage of inhumane means aimed at pushing forth their objectives.”

He said that imposing sanctions against a country is punishing a whole nation, adding, “That is taking revenge of the people, because the countries’ officials usually face no problem providing their requirements.”

The Iranian top official added, “If there are differences of opinion and different ideas about a matter the problem must be solved resorting to appropriate measures, because taking revenge of a nation by imposing pressure against a nation is not the right thing to do at all.”

A reporter said that the world media are portraying a much distorted image of Iran, asking what Iran’s solution for this problem is.

President Ahmadinejad replied, “This issue must be analyzed in the framework of the Iran-US relations.”

He added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran spends its entire efforts aimed at reflecting the realities in this regard and has achieve success in the field too, to some extent in the course of the past 33 years.”

The IRI president expressed hope that a day will come when no media in the world would be under pressure for reflecting the truth, or urged to broadcast false news.

The New York Times reporter asked how come Iran makes no move for reestablishment of ties with the US.

Ahmadinejad replied, “During the course of these 33 years that the relations between American and Iran have been severed it has been the US that has unilaterally cut ties with Iran.”

He added, “During the course of the past 60 years, too, events in bilateral ties has led to deepening the gap in between.” President Ahmadinejad then asked, “Why should the government of a nation that revolted for freedom and the right to choose freely see itself opposed by consecutive US administrations?”

He added, “Yet, we have many times repeated that we are ready for holding dialogue aimed at solving problems under just conditions and based on mutual respect.”

The president reiterated, “Although the Iranian governments have not made the slightest moves against America, quite on the contrary, the US administrations have made numerous moves against the Iranian nation.”

A reporter said, “Iran has filed complaint at the UN against the US for launching internet virus attacks; have the Iranian institutes suffered losses in this respect?”

He replied, “The extent of losses against those facilities and institutes is not important, the important point is violating the territorial integrity of the others.”

Ahmadinejad added, “Those who keep on speaking about the rights of the nations, freedom, and humanitarian values launch attacks against the legal nuclear facilities of a country, while such moves are considered violation of the entire international laws.”

He emphasized, “Of course the Islamic Republic of Iran is highly specialized in software technology and is capable of blocking the path for such attacks.”

He reiterated, “There are only two ways out of the present conditions, one is continuing the war and the other one is beginning negotiations.”

The president added, “The social texture of Syria does not yield to the coming to power of some tribes in the course of a war and any such war would lead to other chains of civil wars.”

He said that the only way out of the current crisis in Syria is reaching national understanding thru holding dialogue, adding, “Freedom and the right to choose are the absolute rights of the Syrian people and the entire nations must have the right to be respected and to be benefitted of justice.”

He emphasized, “Through dialogue and national understanding the engaged sided of the engagements can reach a better sustainable status in their country.”

To a question on Iran-Egypt relations and the future of their ties, he said, “Iran and Egypt have a historical record of cultural and civilizational relations, and meanwhile the two countries’ relations have been good so far, while by expansion of relations there would be potential benefits for the two nations and for the region.”

A reporter asked why the US politicizes Iran’s nuclear issue.

Ahmadinejad replied, “The US objectives have remained quite unchanged during the course of the past 33 years.”

He added, “Under such conditions that the Americans have waged wars against other countries with the motto of promoting democracy, and occupied them, their enmity against Iran is because of the Iranians wish to have freedom and the right to choose freely.”

Also in response to the existence of political prisoners in Iran, he said, “I believe there should be no prisoners in the world, because I do not get happy because of getting imprisoned of anyone.”

He reiterated, “I hope the foreign ministries of the two countries would do the required planning in this respect.”

A reporter asked about the IRI president’s memories of his New York visit. Ahmadinejad replied, “Everything has been good in my New York visit. I have had various meeting with different media, groups, and … which are all good memories.”

In response to a question of a lost FBI agent who is claimed to be in Iran, the president said, “The required moved for a trip of the gentlemen’s family members to Iran have been made and even the Iranian and US intelligence agencies have cooperated in this respect.”

He added, “The two countries’ intelligence officers have done shared works, but I am not presently informed of the latest status on the matter.”

A reporter asked about Iran’s proposal to halt its 20% uranium enrichment if the sanctions are halted. Ahmadinejad replied, “This is not a new issue. Last year, too we had announced are readiness for doing so, but keep in mind that the 20% enrichment is for providing medicine for 800 thousand patients in Iran, and if it is halted some other way for providing the required material for that medicine must be tackled.”

The president at the end appreciated the American security forces and apologized to the New York people for the restrictions they have faced during the UN General Assembly.
