Soltanieh calls for Iran-IAEA technical cooperation away from media hype

Vienna, Sept 6, IRNA -- Iran's representative to IAEA Ali Asghar Soltanieh on Thursday called for Iran-IAEA technical cooperation away from media hype.

Sultanieh made the remarks in a technical meeting on studying the new report released by IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano four days ahead of IAEA's Board of Governors meeting.

He told reporters that the media hype of the western countries created impediments to continued technical cooperation between Iran and the UN nuclear agency.

He said that in the absence of the media hype, the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to help resolve the technical problems with IAEA in the context of a Comprehensive Plan.

In the briefing about Amano's report, the Iranian representative answered the questions posed by the IAEA members and made it clear that Iran and IAEA should resolve technical issues without interference of others and away from political cries.

"When technical issues are being trumpeted by the western media, they escalate tension creating impediments to the ordinary procedure of technical cooperation," he said.

Those who create such atmosphere should be reprimanded, as problems could be resolved much easier and beyond expectations, he said.

IAEA's reports should be released after thorough studies and survey, he underlined.

He strongly criticized those who pursue political gains from IAEA reports and said that they force the Agency's Secretariat to divulge something before composing the report.

The current liaison between IAEA and the western media damaged the prestige of UN agency and made other member states lose trust in the agency, he said.

Soltanieh at the same time refuted the baseless allegations made by IAEA on Parchin area.
