IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, June 27, IRNA -- Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said the US is the biggest owner of chemical weapons who is vividly violating international conventions by refusing to fulfill its commitments.
In a message on the occasion of the National Day of Campaign against Chemical Weapons, he said that the occasion reminded of all the sufferings and unbearable pain of Iran's brave combatants who resisted the inhuman chemical attacks by the criminal regime of Saddam Hussein to safeguard the Islamic system and the Iranian borders.
Stressing that Iran is the biggest victim of chemical weapons in the world, he said the massacre of several thousands of Iranian people and injury of another tens of thousands is the outcome of the use of the chemical weapons provided to the Saddam regime by western countries.
The minister reiterated that the Zionist regime has increased the existing concerns about development and expansion of such weapons by refusing international inspections to its chemical facilities.
He further called on the Organization of Non-Proliferation of Chemical Weapons to frankly work towards ultimate eradication of such weapons from the globe.
Vahidi also urged the United Nations to help establish a world void of weapons of mass destruction including the chemical ones.
