FM spokesman: Success of Moscow talks depends on 5+1 approach
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, June 12, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said the success of talks in Moscow depends on the attitude of the 5+1 member states.
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, he noted that based on agreements in Baghdad, talks between Iran and the 5+1 are set for June 18-19, he said, adding that the success of the talks depended on the degree of cooperation and positive and constructive attitudes of the group's member states.
He said the talks will be more likely to succeed if the 5+1 displays more willingness to recognize Iran's rights.
Voicing Iran's readiness for talks, he hoped the meeting of the deputies of the EU Foreign Policy chief and Iran's secretary of Supreme National Security Council will be held according to the schedule to decide the agenda of Moscow talks.
On Syrian issue, he urged all countries to help settle the crisis there in a proper way.
Stressing that domestic issues of countries should be settled without external interferences, Mehmanparast pointed out that the Syrian government has taken good steps towards reforms.
Referring to Kofi Annan's plan on Syria, he said it seems that whenever the plan gets close to bearing any fruits, the atmosphere in Syria gets really tense due to activities of certain foreign countries.
The spokesman said Iran supported settlement of Syrian crisis through talks.
As for execution of a number of Iranian nationals in Saudi Arabia, he said such an action has political and legal consequences which could be followed up in international conventions.
On Bushehr nuclear power plant, he said the plant which has already joined the national network will reach its full capacity in October.
