Jalili: Talks held in good atmosphere

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Baghdad, May 25, IRNA -- Secretary of Supreme National Security Council of Iran (SNSCI), Saeed Jalili, said here on Thursday that the Tehran-G5+1 talks were held in a good atmosphere.

Jalili told reporters that the Baghdad talks were intensive and long. “The talks in Baghdad were detailed but unfinished.”

He said the G5+1 had a series of proposals and Iran too raised its own too.

Noting that the sides raised their issues transparently and candidly, Jalili said the talks’ outcome was that the parties managed to get more informed of each other’s stances.

He said Iranian nation is entitled to uranium enrichment. “We consider any discussion and cooperation in the field of nuclear issue justifiable. However, in this way, winning Iranian nation’s confidence is also noteworthy.”

The talks would be forward looking alongside which there are no paths for destruction, he added.

“We believe the capacity for dialogue provides an opportunity to help peace in different fields. In the talks, the two sides had serious and essential discussions. We had serious proposals on cooperation for Iran’s nuclear program. But what’s of importance and should e taken into consideration in cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran is observing rights of nations.”

He said to this end, Iran is not an exception. “Iran acts on its duties based on NPT, stressing that alike all countries, Iran’s right to use peaceful nuclear energy should be respected.”

“I thank Iraqi government and nation deeply and wish them success,” said Jalili when commenting on holding the Baghdad talks.

“I am happy that Iraqi provided conditions to reserve valuable regional and international position both in terms of domestic issues and especially today in light of national unity and integration.”

He then said what has ended today is the path and direction of pressure on the Iranian nation. “The method is useless and the only strategy for cooperation can guarantee the talks.”

He recommended that if the negotiators want the talks be successful, they should act based on the strategy of dialogue-cooperation.

Asked about enrichment, he said, “Enrichment for peaceful purposes is our absolute right and can serve as an issue for cooperation.”
