IAEA Chief, AEOI Head discuss issues of mutual interest

Tehran, May 21, IRNA -- Director General of the Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukio Amano met and conferred with Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Fereydoun Abbassi here on Monday.
Briefing Amano on Iran’s nuclear energy activities in the fields of agriculture, medicine and industry, Abbassi underlined the need for more effective cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.
He stressed, “The (IAEA) Director General too should provide assurances that the Agency would have closer cooperation with Iran in various fields.”
Stressing that the IAEA is not only an inspectin abody, Abbassi said, “We have had extensive activities in the fields of campaign against cancer, food security, water supply and other applications of nuclear energy.”
The two sides also discussed present problems more candidly, providing each other with proposals to remove ambiguities and expand cooperation.
Iran’s permanent envoy to IAEA Ali-Asghar Soltanieh, IAEA chief inspector Herman Nackaerts and IAEA number two man, Rafael Mariano Grossi, were also present in the meeting.
