Navy commandoes save Iranian oil tanker from pirates

Tehran, Feb 25, IRNA -- Iranian navy commandoes on Saturday successfully rescued an Iranian oil tanker from a group of pirates in free waters.

vigilant Iranian naval forces were patrolling open seas on Saturday when they noticed that an Iranian oil tanker came under attack by a group of pirates, said a report issued by public relations department of Iran’s Navy.

Immediately after the attack which occurred about 35 miles away from Bab al-Mandab Strait, the Iranian forces took timely action and forced the pirates to flee the scene of conflict, said the report.

The Iranian oil tanker then continued sailing towards her destination without any problem, said the report.

Iran’s Navy plays a key role in protecting security of sea navigation in open seas.
